Story
Christina has worked with the mediums of moss and mirror for many years, but developed this site specific piece based on an invitation to a light based showcase. As the idea was developed, it was clear that it was a combination of who she is as a person and an artist. The mirrors and their reflection further the idea of that metaphor. As do the natural and elegant strands of moss that hang and flow in the wind through the changes of life and the current outside environment. Furthermore, as half of her life has been spent in the natural lush surroundings of South Florida and the other half in San Francisco(disco;)).
All That I Ever Was is beautiful in both light and dark. In the dark, the mirrors reflect the light as it is projected onto the rings. In daylight, the piece reflects the light of the sun and the environment around it. The long strands of Spanish Moss hang down to create a natural and ethereal aesthetic.
With this piece, the audience is invited to use their sense of sight and touch to experience the beauty of the work in both light and dark. As different colors of light or the sun reflect from the mirrors it is the hope that people come together in the spirit of community and love to dance and share all that it has to offer. The artist asks the audience to embrace the story of the piece's natural elements and imagine the ways that we are similar, individuals, all holding hands to connect with each other in this experience of life.
